Cybercrime Prevention Law

With the proliferation of scams and different forms of fraud, technology has become an instrument for many Filipinos to fall prey to unscrupulous activities. Since the Philippines is relatively new to this form of technology, there were no laws existing to protect citizens from what was dubbed as “cybercrimes.”

Eyeing the need for a law to seize such acts, Sen. Bong Revilla filed Senate Bill No. 2721 or an act defining cybercrime, providing for the prevention, investigation and imposition of penalties therefore and other purposes. This law has become a landmark legislation since it helped Filipinos understand what cybercrime is, what are its implications, how they can prevent being victimized, and how the law can protect and ensure their safety from being involved in scams and fraudulent activities in the internet.
